There were a number of recall alerts this week involving children and baby products and we wanted to help get the word out. The list below includes links to the full information page via the Consumer Product Safety and Health Canada

• Bumbleride Indie & Bumbleride Indie Twin strollers (The front wheel can break potentially causing the stroller to become unstable and flip over)
• Splat Shot, Splat Ball and Splat Shot Disc - Marvel Spider Sense Spiderman by Tech4Kids Inc. (recalled toy contains the toxic substance, bronopol)
• Baby Bibs - sold via Dollarama (the bibs' lining contains a phthalate, specifically DEHP (Di(2-ethylhexyl) Phthalate), which exceeds the allowable limit)
• Safety 1^st Push 'n Snap Cabinet Lock (the cabinet locks can open easily when cabinet doors are pulled upon)
• Discovery Kids Animated Marine and Safari Lamps (may pose a safety hazard)
• Britax Chaperone Infant Car Seats (possible incorrect installation of a rivet that could increase risk of injury in the case of a vehicle crash)
• Tassimo - voluntary recall, this was on their Facebook page: "We have identified a supplier manufacturing defect involving TASSIMO Espresso Drink T DISCs sold in the US and Canada", more details here.

It's great to know that products are being continually tested but still so shocking to see how many products make it to the shelves that contain toxic materials, especially those destined for use by infants and kids!

Now that the holidays are well over, and winter feels like it's dragging on, we thought we'd shake things up a bit with an awesome Heat Up the Winter Par-tay ... Facebook style! Recipes are not something we've ever posted on Mother of a Deal and they're not something we're planning on making a regular feature but due to popular demand (Marnie, Heather, Michelle, Maria and a number of other moms who've asked for this recipe), it seemed this was as good a place as any to share a kid-approved, Mother of a Deal recipe.

In a large bowl add 3 cups quick oats and 4 cups of "stuff" (wheat germ, ground flax and/or flax seeds, oat bran, dried fruit, mini chocolate chips, nuts, coconut,  ... my son even added 1/2 a cup of mini marshmellows when he helped out) and stir together (for a starting reference I use 1c wheat germ, 1c oat bran, 1/2 c ground flax, 1/4 c flax seeds, 1/4 c unsweetened shredded coconut, 1/2 c dried cranberries and 1/2 c mini chocolate chips). Add 1/2 cup melted butter and 1 can condensed milk (low fat is fine). Mix everything together well and pat very firmly down into a foiled and greased 9x13 pan. Put in oven (preheated at 350) for approximately 20 - 30 minutes ... they're done when edges start to turn brown. Remove, let cool completely and cut into squares. So easy, really nutritious and the kids have fun making and eating them. The kids each get to pick a cup of "stuff" to add when they're helping out.

One side of the bed-side sleepers is lower than the others to allow positioning near a bed and access to the infant for care and feeding. There are two designs for the bed-side sleepers with a date of manufacture between September 1997 and December 2001, or 2002 to 2008. All designs and models of Original and Universal Co-Sleeper^® brand bed-side sleepers are included in this recall." Health Canada has issued a recall alert for the Troy Activity Truck toy by Infantino. A choking hazard has been identified with this toy. For full details and contact information check the Health Canada Consumer Product Safety site.
